8 Reasons why Kanye West is better at business than you

Kanye West

  1. He isn’t saying she’s a gold digger

When your business starts generating good revenue, you really have to watch your finances. There are plenty of different people, and venues that will want to suck out some of that revenue. Employees checking e-mail on your dollar? Newspapers convincing you to run that ineffective advertisement one more month. While they might not be gold diggers, you have to watch out for everyone who wants a piece of your pie.

  2. N- n- now th- that doesn’t kill him can only make him stronger

The fact of the matter is that the first few years of business is going to stuck. Every day will be a learning process, funds will be low, everything will feel unsure. However every new client, sale, event will teach you something. If you can constantly try and learn from your mistakes, by year three you will look back and wonder why you ever doubted yourself.

  3. Sometimes you gotta just say something stupid

No such thing as bad press? I don’t know about that, but there is some value to any exposure good or bad. While I don’t think you should make claims about George Bush and racial situations on national TV… sometimes you can get a lot of exposure on controversial issues. A few newspaper mentions can turn a company that only your mom knows about into a household name.

  4. Kanye realizes he is important, so much he feels comfortable posing as jesus (rolling stone cover feb. 2006)

Ok, so maybe that is going a bit too far. But as the leader of your company you have to realize your time is valuable. Any time you spend on the menial tasks is time away from the important business building tasks. Why bother doing the mundane elements when you can hire an assistant to do them for you? You can worry about making the $200 an hour tasks while the intern handles the $50 an hour jobs. You will never get far as a business owner unless you learn to delegate the unimportant tasks and focus on the important ones yourself.

  5. Kanye aim’s for the stars

Kayne West has very high goals, so high that he thinks the bible should be rewritten and he should become a character in it! Goals are a cornerstone of any business. With out goals you will never push yourself to get to the point of expansion, double your revenue, or get that next client. Develop any system you can to constantly set and record your goals/progress. Whether it is billable hours per month, new clients, number of sales, or even times mentioned by the press. Set short term goals and long term goals, and aim high. If you set your goals too low you will find you have accomplished them to quickly and have no where to go next.

  6. Kanye Collaborates with other artists

By collaborating with artists that are even outside his music style, Kanye markets to a totally different style of music and fan! Collaboration is a great way to develop business growth, earn extra income, and mutually benefit. Whether it is co-branding promotional materials, developing strategic partnerships, or swapping items to sell in each others stores. The more people that become a strategic partner the larger your potential reach is. Find someone who offers a complimenting product or service, and recommend each other. You will be surprised how far it gets you.

  7. Kanye knows how to party

Sometimes you need to have fun and relax. Running your own business it is easy to get into the hole of constantly working, trying to get to the next step. What happens however is you end up losing productivity and getting burned out. You need those nights where you just relax, have fun with friends and recharge. You will find that you come up with better ideas, work harder, and enjoy work more. It sounds counter intuitive but it really is beneficial to step away from the desk from time to time.

  8. Kanye goes clubbing

It sounds similar to partying, but it is not. Networking is extremely important. Every person you meet has the opportunity to know someone who knows someone who could use your product or service. Every person you meet can become a spokes person for your company.

Networking can be hard, I know… not everyone is a people person. The more you do it however, the easier it becomes. You should push yourself to network as often as possible. Go to seminars, lunch ins, parties, local political meetings, etc.
