Apple is main stream? What happens when your niche becomes main stream?

Seth Godin had an interesting post about apple, noting that they have grown in popularity to the point where they are no longer the computer for the “creative artist”, but the computer for the masses.
His point is that apple has always marketed themselves as the computer that is “better than what the masses pick”, but now they have become the computer for the masses.
Is this a problem for apple? Is their marketing plan shot to hell? Or is it simply something they need to change and adapt with?
I would contest that this is a good thing, and that Apple as a company knows exactly how to handle and adapt to this new situation. After all they have mastered the world of the mp3 player, mp3 software, and quick into the world of the cellular phone.
Apple has for a long time operated as a leader in different industries, and CEO Steve Jobs has plenty of experience in such position. This instead of a problem, is an opportunity for apple. They now are positioned to change personal computing, and hopefully for the better.
All marketing plans must adapt, and overtaking the market share is a glorious reason to adapt…
